The following section describes our Kindergarten Transition events, getting the family ready for fall Kindergarten.
- Parents/Guardians: support to register your children as early as Feb 1, learn about our kindergarten program, meet the principals and other kindergarten parents/guardians, tour the schools
- Children: to get comfortable in their new school, and begin to meet new friends before school starts in the fall

2. KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION TIMELINE:
- Dec 11, 5:30-6:30: VIRTUAL ZOOM KINDERGARTEN INFORMATION NIGHT for parents. Online presentation held with all 4 elementary principals, some K staff, the Registrar, and the Early Childhood Center to talk about the Kindergarten program at all 4 elementary schools. See below for links to the video and presentation slides in English and Spanish.
- Jan 15, 5:15-6:30: SCHOOL INFORMATION SESSION & TOUR HOUR -- simultaneously at all 4 schools (BSS, JSS, Leeds, RR). Adults only; for parents and caregivers. Snow date Jan 16.
- Jan 22, Jan 28, & Feb 6: CLASSROOM OBSERVATION DAYS for parents to visit Kindergarten classrooms at their home school. Sign up before the tour to confirm your place -- maximum 10 adults per tour, no children. Call your school to sign up: BSS 587-1460, JSS 587-1510, Leeds 587-1530, RKFRR 587-1550
- KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION DAY and Celebration! *** SAT, February 1, 9:30-12:30, at JFK Middle School *** THE BIG EVENT! For parents & FAMILIES to come to register their child for fall. Supervised play for children, a chance to ride the school bus in the JFK loop, community partners like Forbes Library with free library cards, all to support you and your child having a wonderful transition to Kindergarten. Support for parents/guardians to fill out paperwork and provide documents (medical, identity, and residence); Spanish translation support. Get ready in January with your forms & documents, February 1 will sneak up on you fast! Snow date Feb 8.
- Aug 6, 14, 20, 26*: AUGUST PLAYDATES AT EACH SCHOOL'S PLAYGROUND (*including school tour on the 26th). Have your child play on the playground with you and other children and families starting kindergarten. This is a way for your child to meet their principal and begin to make friends, so it is all more familiar before school starts.
